Downtown L.A.: Daikokuya

Downtown L.A. has some great restaurants. Whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner. There is always something for everyone. One of my favorites is Daikokuya. It’s a Japanese Ramen place in Little Tokyo. It’s open until 1 am somedays. Daikokuya is a chain and although I’ve been to their other locations, I still love coming here. Theres just something about this location that stands out. When you get there they have a paper pad to put your name and party number down. After you put your name down make sure you’re paying attention to your name being called. The last time I was there I had to make sure I was paying attention, the hostess was calling out the number next to your name. I had to make sure I remembered my number.

Aside from that I would also have to say that this place doesnt do big parties. You can bring all 8 of your friends but dont expect to be seated together. There just isnt enough room inside. The service is great and the food is always yummy. The ambiance is great.

Speaking of the food. If you love ramen, come here. They have different broths and spicy soups, nice little add ons. My usual is the tonkatsu shoyu (tokyo style soy sauce pork broth), it comes with the noodles, pork cutlet, seasoned egg, mushrooms, seaweed, green onion and of course the broth. I love adding an extra seasoned egg to my soup. Another menu item I can recommend is the gyoza. Gyozas are pork and veggie filled dumplings that are either fried or steamed. They are just so good and definitely fill you up. At Daikokuya when they make the gyoza the gyozas are like steamed together so they stick together in a row. You can break them apart and eat them. They garnish them with green onion. If you’ve never had ramen come here. It’s worth the wait.
