Los Angeles Zoo

I haven’t been to the L.A. Zoo in a very long time. My husband and I decided to visit the L.A. Zoo and we were actually surprised at how much it’s changed. I felt like it’s branched out more and there’s more to see, do and learn about.

If you go to the L.A. Zoo, plan to visit early in the day. The Zoo opens up at 10 a.m. If you show up by 12 p.m. you’ll probably miss most of the animals. Just a warning the area gets hot, even for Los Angeles. I got a nasty tan from standing in the sun at the Zoo. If you show up at 12 most of the animals are napping or being fed. Sometimes they’re taken out of their exhibit by zoo keepers. You can come to find empty areas.

One of my favorite exhibits was the Meerkat exhibit. They’re super cute and active. There were about 6 of them all running around. My nieces and nephews were also at the Zoo with me and they all were calling them Timon from the Disney Lion King movie. Which I found to be cute being that nowadays kids know animals by their Disney names. lol. When you see the giraffes you can feed them for $5 dollars. It’s pretty cool.

We also got to see an alligator exhibit. There were about 3 of them just lounging around and walking around. It was cool. A little scary but cool. Be prepared to walk A LOT of hills, this place is full of them and my feet were killing me before we got to 3/4 of the Zoo. So bring walking shoes.

When it comes to shopping and dining. They have 2 souvenir shops that are cool. They also have some neat eating areas. Definitely get the souvenir cup so you can get refills for chip. I found that with the heat, i constantly was refilling my souvenir cup. Soft drinks are about $3.00 bucks and water is free.
