Sushi in Tokyo

While in Tokyo we had dinner twice at a sushi place. Sushi in Japan is nothing like sushi in the U.S. When we arrived at the sushi place we were seated in front of a sushi chef who spoke little English, but it was not a problem. As I’ve said before, English is not a common language in Japan. But I will say that our sushi chef was very friendly and tried to speak to us in English as much as he could. Japanese people are very friendly and welcoming of tourists. Our chef, along with the rest of the chefs stand within a square table that has a conveyor belt going around the table. They prepare and sit sushi plates on the conveyor belt that are being ordered more frequently. At the same time they will prepare whatever sushi plate you’d like. The sushi plates range between 90 yen to 1000 yen. If you translate that in dollars it’s 1 dollar to 10 dollars per plate. Each plate has a different color depending on the price. Let me tell you, you can get easily carried away when you start eating. My husband and I ended up eating close to 5800 yen of sushi or $60 dollars. We were stuffed and it was worth it!
